I began to experiment with Simlpe Green vs. water to remove the border adhesive. Here you see a completely organized beginning to an earth-shattering scientific experiment. What you don’t see is how I kept forgetting to go back and re-wet them since I was looking up useless things on the internet. So, I wound up slopping Simple Green solution over the whole wall. It was successful for several reasons: 1) I didn’t cover it with plastic wrap and leave it to sit for a whole hour, 2) I used a plastic scraper instead of a metal one. Hooray! The goal is to take it off a foot at a time. At this rate, I’ll be done by Easter!

I finally got around to going through my valentines from the children, and this one struck me as pretty darn clever. It’s a roll of Smarties, with a stick of gum on the back held on by a rubber band threaded through two big Lifesavers.  I’m normally not a crafty person, but this was great! (AnI think I bent the gum leaving it in the bag too long.)Â
I forgot to say, “Thanks, Jarod! And Jarod’s mom!”

Change is a’comin’ again! After ten years, I am committed to getting the stupid grape border off the dining room walls. (It came with the house.) I tore off a little strip last week, and yesterday worked on soaking off the glue. Guess what happenes when you let glue disolver sit too long on a painted plaster walls Yeah, the paint comes off. Grrrrr…
In other news, Lloyd and I went around the house and made a list of things that really need to be repaired around here – the humidifier on the furnace, call the basement people to see about our foundation, the peeling paint around the windows, the constantly leaky toilet, the banister railing needs fixing, and our washing machine that was just repaired two weeks ago is leaking again. We worked for about an hour, then I had a glass of wine and a two hour nap. That’s how things get done, right?

Yesterday Lloyd called to ask if I’d like to go to a spontaneous birthday party that one of his co-workers was having for herself. “Sounds fun!” I replied! So, we all met at Red Robin, and it turned out to be us and several of her friends from around Lincoln. It was very interesting, since all of them had jobs that WEREN’T teaching. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been with a group like that. One worked at a company that produced newsletters for other companies, one was a pastor, one was a nursing student, one worked at UNL (but not as a teacher!), one guy was in charge of all the computers for some call-processing place, and one was a grad student. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening…..until I realized I was the oldest one there. That’s going to start happening alot, now, huh?
“Happy Birthday, Customer, We hope you liked the food, We sing this made-up birthday song just so we don’t get sued. Stupid Michael Jackson, or was it Paul McCartney? He bought the rights to the real song and ruined all our parties.”
