Taste of summer

Journal, Lauren

Here it is, folks – my first real tomato sandwich of summer made with a real, vine-ripened tomato that I didn’t have to grow!! See, this is why I don’t garden. Every spring I give a passing thought to maybe planting a container of cherry tomatoes, because ripe tomatoes are my Kryptonite of summer. Then, I don’t. Too much work, too much effort. Then, when I’m regretting my decision, all the people with too many tomatoes share their bounty! We had TWO people at work today bring extras! Woo – hoo!! Here’s a picture of my snack: White bread, Miracle Whip, tomato, salt.

With so many tomatoes around, BLT’s were the obvious choice for dinner. On the down side, I was in a hurry to get to home visits tonight, and had no time for a bacon mat. So I had to FRY my bacon…

and we ate FRIED bacon….

like animals.

Oh, the horror.

Oh, the orgasm! I don’t care how you cook it -- bacon is awesome! What a great way to end my evening -- I will go to bed dreaming of bacon -- burnt, crispy bacon! Yes! Yes! Yes!

Don’t forget dessert: Stuff some tomatoes with marshmallows and cook in the oven until golden brown. Then sprinkle with a little nutmeg. Is it a real recipe? No, not really, but it sounds weird enough to be something fancy, doesn’t it?

Talk about the horror! That first picture for me is like you looking at a licorice sandwich! Blahhhhh

Thanks for the 2nd picture! How about someone trying to FRY up a bacon mat & let us know how it turns out? Lets make it a race …
