I’m down to posting old things because not much is currently happening. A while back I got around to ‘privatizing’ the downstairs windows. I like having tons of windows, but I don’t like feeling like we’re on t.v. at night. Too many people watching me dance the watusi. My cheap-o way of doing this is to take white fabric, drench it in liquid starch, wring it out and smooth it on the windows. Stays put, and when you have to peel it off (say when you want to make your windows look crazy for the Fourth of July), it’s like magic! Stiff as a board (light as a feather).
Karla says
Cool! I lined an old truck this way. It worked like a charm and the fabric is still in place nearly 10 years later.
christina says
Ok, why did you line an old truck? And did you line the windows or the seats and doors?
Beth says
Did you mean a truNk? Heh. That little confusion makes me laugh :D!
christina says
Oh, I did not think of that, but it makes more sense than lining a truck, but not nearly as interesting for a story.
Beth says
I agree…just what part of a truck could you starch? Heh.
Karla says
By starching some shear fabric to your back windows you get the same effect as getting them tinted. Of course, by doing the seat belts, they’ll never twist in the hardware. And it works well on the dash instead of using Armor-All. 😀
christina says
I love it!
Deanne says
This is interesting… trunk or windows, it sounds a little spotty!
So, can you share with us why you did it??
Karla says
I lined a trunk (which could be hauled in a truck) because it was in desparate need of a new lining. It was so easy to do and now the trunk is spiffy and clean. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with the trunk when I got it because of the bad lining, but now it’s perfect for storing blankets!
christina says
I love this!! It works great on walls as well. Just like wallpaper without all the yelling.
Brad says
Could you make clothes like this? That would rock! You could just plaster them on in the morning, and peel them off at night.
Karla says
Hmmm, you’d have to reapply after each visit to the bathroom.
Annette says
It’s the reverse of pouring one’s self into their clothes, this would be pouring one’s clothes on self!
Karla says
Hey! Why can’t I respond to Christina’s comment?!? I’ve tried twice to laugh at my clearly superior command of the computer keyboard and it doesn’t post!
Lauren says
I don’t know, and the overlord is already on his way to school. I’ve done everything humanly possible.
Peggy says
Who are you people? Why is it necessary for you all to hide your doings?
Annette says
I think it’s their visitors that they are trying to hide!
christina says
Hide from who??? They live in Nebraska.
Lauren says
Hey! We have plenty to hide, sister!
Cousin Sam says
Hey I have 3 cans too. If you have Lego minifigs you can paint them gold and call them L’Oscars that’s what we give out to kids for good preformances in our musicals.

I think this is an awesome idea. My twin daughters was just trying to figure out a way to cover their window in the dorm bedroom. They cant hang rods so I think this is the perfect solution. Thanks
Nina says
I realize this is a very old post but I tryed this and after it dried It has some bubbles that didnt stick to the window..? Is this normal or do I need to redo the whole thing or just the spots….any help would be appreciated! BTW I completely saturated the fabric with starch so IDK what went wrong. Thanks in advance!
