Falling mainly on the plain.

Journal, Lauren

Woo-hoo! We have international fame! Somebody from Spain found the sugar dispenser I made from the IKEA container. You can look at the all-Spanish site here, or go to this roughly translated version here. I’m so happy! Whoever you are, Marta, I am proud to be considered a Pirate de IKEA.

UPDATE: I wrote this post last night, and I can’t believe I didn’t put a link to my favorite YouTube video. It’s called ‘The One Semester of Spanish Spanish Love Song’. It cracks me up!! Warning to dial-uppers, clicking on this will take forever. Click here.
'Large map of Spain' - that's what it said.

Do you think there’s a song for the Pirate de IKEAs like there is for the Pirates of Penzance?

You should comment. I bet she would love it.

I think we should write a song!

I’d comment, but all I remember how to say is, “Where is the burro?”

Tell me what you want to say, and I’ll tell you how to say it!!

How do you say, “Where is the burro?”?

Hey, wait… I thought she said she could say that. Ah, ha! It’s a test…

Donde esta el burro? (But it should have an upside down question mark at the beginning, and an accent over the letter a in esta and the letter o in donde.)

          • Lloyd Said on:

Indeed, and you have passed the test. I shall now come to you with all of my translation needs.

      • Deanne Said on:

I left a comment that said (loosely translated) that you thought it was cool that they had picked up your pirated ikea idea and you wanted to leave a comment.

It didn’t seem to post properly though, so I’m not sure if it made it. Perhaps they think that wierdos named Deanne are just spammers, filling up their comments with junk…

Hey, you should just leave the comment in English. One of the site managers probably was one of the Spanish foreign exchange students that was at Saint Paul’s when we were there and will make the connection and they’ll travel all the way from Spain for the reunion…

Here’s Google’s translation: Hi Lauren! Actually you are a pirate Ikea! They are not only those who make big changes, how easy is also grande. Puedes send your Ikea-hacks whenever quieras. Un greeting:
      Marta

My thanks to Marta! Deanne, what are those other words?

So, you’ve joined the ranks of Ikea Pirates--contratulations!

The third sentence is probably something like little and big modifications make you a pirate, not just the big changes.

The fourth is something like, You can send your Ikea hacks whenever you’d like.

        And then, a greeting.

Did she send you this in an e-mail? I didn’t see it on the site.

Thank you, Translator! She posted it here. I haven’t commented on her site yet, so I think she’s replying to yours. 🙂

Uh, I guess I’m caught for not reading every comment… (or, blind in one eye, can’t see out of the other!)

Hi Lauren! You really are an Ikea pirate! [Pirates] aren’t just the ones who make the big changes, the simple ones are also [important]. You can send me your Ikea hacks any time you want. Greetings:
      Marta
