New new glasses

Journal, Lauren

Those people at Lenscrafters – they’re so nice. The whole ‘bring them back if you’re not satisfied’ promise is not a hoax! I went in last Sunday and browsed their selection of frames – alone (since Lloyd was busy), with my camera, trying to take pictures of my face without drawing attention to myself. See, the problem with being almost blind is that you can’t see the glasses on your face when you try them on. One of the sales people came over and offered all kinds of help, and when she handed me frames that were on clearance, that sealed the deal! Being Sunday, no one was in the lab so they wouldn’t be ready until Monday, and being Lloyd, he couldn’t bring them home until Tuesday.

They were not my favorite. Once I actually got them on, the cool, edgy frames became horse blinders. I couldn’t see anything off to the side, which is bad when you’re the All-Knowing, All-Seeing Mrs. Sommerer, who can tell if you’ve got your finger in your nose even if she’s not looking at you. They had to go back. Now I have a similar style, but with thinner stems. I look forward to the next few days when the children will ask me over and over and over and over, “Do you have new glasses?”

I’m using cropped shots for two reasons. One, I don’t want Brad to do his stupid, sneaky celebrity match thing that always makes me into guys. The second is that I jut posted this website on my high school’s reunion site and I don’t want them to see how horribly I’ve aged.

Don’t worry about me using your likeness without your permission. I’ve been doing it for a while now. Lloyd signed a consent form for you.

I like the bottom ones. Oh! Those are the ones you got--they look like they belong on you.

Are those new glasses, Mrs. Sommerer? When did you get them? Why do you need new glasses? How come you don’t have your old glasses? I liked your old glasses better. How long will you have these glasses? Can you see better with these? Where did you get them? My mom has new glasses. She doesn’t like to wear them, but says she has to because she’s getting old. I had hot dogs for supper last night.

Y’know -- shows what I know. I think after being away for so many days, their minds only remembered that “Mrs. Sommerer wears glasses.” Not a peep from them! Hmmphh.

Brad, didn’t you like my second easter egg? I think of you every time I say it.
