Ice Storm

December 2, 2007

Journal, Lauren

We had an ice storm Saturday. (We were forced to stay inside and do nothing all day. Drat. You know how that goes against our natures.) The ice took down some branches in the neighborhood and made everything so shiny! As with all storms, I secretly love them, though I feel bad for travelers and animals stuck outside. I spent a good amount of time watching our squirrel slip & slide on the branches. Poor guy.
That's gotta hurt.

You can' drive - too bad.

Unfortunately, I made some bad food preparations. We had no milk, and the stew I made (to keep us alive) had a terrible flavor. Yuck. I did have apples, though, and I learned a new trick – dried apples! My dad has always made delicious dried apples, and I used to eat gobs and gobs of them. I tried drying the super-thin slices in the oven, and in an hour or so had crispy apple chips! I’ll never be able to save these for future use, because I eat them right off the rack. It was a miracle I was able to give any to Lloyd. I’m going to have a stomachache later.

addictive and healthy -who knew?

I love being trapped in! It’s the best! Although I would have made something really sweet & unhealthy. And I would have ice-skated to the store for milk.

We got 7 inches of snow in our storm on Saturday. We really needed it, and the girls love it.

    Seeing those, I miss Nebraska….NOT!!!

(Actually, they look a lot like the ice storm we had last year just before Thanksgiving. People went without electricity for more than a week because of downed power lines. Missouri get ’em too, although I hope not any time soon.)

Dang it. Ice like that would close school for at least three days here. All we got was a little rain.
