January 4th – Happy Baptismal Birthday to me!
Tonight was the beginning of what will surely be a months-long, if not years-long, project. I’m ditching the kitchen grapes. If you’ll recall, the border in the dining room had grapes on it, and that theme continued to the kitchen. I was alright with it for eleven years, but it’s time for a change. I’m not sure what the change will be, so feel free to suggest something!
The things up there were so very, very filthy that I was too ashamed to take pictures of them. See that brown-ish glass in the middle? It’s supposed to be sparkling crystal. Everything’s covered in dust and sticky, greasy residue. I’ve said it before – I burn food. Greasy, greasy food. I tried my best to wash those things tonight, and now I can’t get the sticky off my hands. *jibblie*
Here’s tonight’s progress. I’m just doing this much at a time. Think of the movie the pictures will make!

I don’t have a suggestion for a change. I just wanted to say “Woohoo! First one!” 😀
Brad says
Maybe you could do a different fruit on each wall. Or you could switch it up a little and do a vegetable.
Michele says
Do you have any hunters in the family? You could fill the space with items from the taxidermist! They look OK a little dirty!
Beth says
I have a lovely racoon skull I could contribute…and I used to have a great skinned and stuffed white mouse…but I think our parent’s former cat Lucy got a hold of it…
Brad could probably hook you up with a couple rabbits and a rat or two.
Regardless -- great idea, Michele!
Michele says
Then you could also put up a little plaque that says, “Complain about my cooking and you’ll end up here!”
Peggy says
Good idea … but if you go with the plaque, throw some human heads up there too.
Jill says
My suggestion would be to paint the space above the cabinets a rich, dark color so your cabinets stand out. It could be somthing that would tie in the dining room and kitchen. Maybe the same color of your stenciling could go above the cabinets??
Lloyd says
My suggestion was to paint it to look like other cabinets. so she’d have more storage space.
Peggy says
hehe … and the cats would have fun hiding in them too.
Deanne says
Or you could get brand new cabinets that go to the ceiling. Then maybe you could skip the grape removal completely.
Beth says
Or you could paint it a lovely greasy dust color. Problem solved.
