The Fort

The lady in orange is surrounded by Cruel Girls.

I have a hard time buying jeans. Clothes shopping is worse than getting a root canal for me. I don’t like trying stuff on, and I don’t want to pay any money for clothes. If it were socially acceptable to wear bathrobes in public, I’d like being in public a lot more.

I’ve found jeans that I like, but every time I go back to buy another pair of them, the brand has vanished. (I like to think of this as one of my superpowers.) The jeans that I’ve worn the past couple of years are wearing out. I bought them at The Fort – a western wear store in Lincoln. (That’s right – a western wear store.) The brand is called Cruel Girl, which is bad enough by itself. (I cut all visible labels and tags off.) I was worried that they had run out of my style, since the brand appears to have grown and they had about ten different styles. Fortunately, they had mine, so I’ll be buying a pair a month for the next year so I’ll have jeans until I die.

When I went in before, I just walked straight to the women’s jeans section. This time, though, we browsed. Holy cats, the place is huge! They have an upstairs where they had ‘Old West Wear’ – complete with a strange man dressed in Old West Gear to help you out. We found all the horse stuff, and now I think we should get a horse for the backyard.

While I was trying on jeans, Lloyd walked on, and came back to tell me that there were two more stores back there – the Don’t-Freeze-Your-Body outdoor gear, and then a work boot store (as opposed to the cowboy boot store). We spent some time talking to the guy in the boot store, and he said that the whole store used to be a strip mall, but they just kept knocking down walls to make more room.

Yippee ki yi yay!!

These are all little kids' boots

Y’all come to Nebraska, and we’ll take ya to The Fort!

Some of those boots are pretty flashy! They almost look more appropriate for Brokeback Mountain then they do for the fields of Nebraska…

I like your idea of “jeans for life”. The Levi’s outlet store I was getting jeans from has just closed. I like Levi’s “Silvertab”, but they are really hard to find, dnag it!

I’m so glad to hear that you found jeans two whole years after you bought the first pair. Whew!

It’s even more fun to go in there with someone who knows his way around, wears Tony Lamas, and is familliar with the purpose for all those horse items… You should invite Harold next time as your tour guide.

I hate trying clothes on too! Too often I just buy stuff, take it home, then it doesn’t fit right, & I never end up returning it. Then it gets donated to Purple Heart or Salvation Army with the tags still on. Maybe I should just go buy things & have the store mail them directly to Goodwill.
