So, 9 p.m. rolled around again and I wandered around the house looking for some post fodder so I could go to bed. Unfortunately it’s the biggest cold snap of the season and I left my point-and-shoot thermometer at school. I took some pictures of the kitchen windows using my probe thermometer, and was surprised at how cold it was behind the towels ‘curtains’.
Yep, ‘Lo’. It only reads to 32 degrees. (It’s 66 on this side of the towel curtain. Dnag it!) Time for an experiment! We’ll see if a shot glass of water will freeze on the window sill. In the control group, I’ll also put a shot glass on a non-towel-covered window, rare though those may be in this house. Brad, I’m sure you’ll be up before the results are posted.
UPDATE: Riddle me this. It didn’t freeze – not even a little on the top. Was the window sill too warm? That’s my guess, since hte water itself is below 32. Hmmph.

Lonely little post here is your first comment! At 3:30 AM -18 degrees here in Indiana. Wind chill is -36. Mr. Wizard and Bill Nye have nothing on you! Make sure that the ice doesn’t go to waist … it is in a shot glass you know.
Arron/Karla says
Idiot … I spelled waste wrong. I shouldn’t be posting at this time of the morning before the caffeine fix.
Lloyd says
Maybe you were making some clever comment about whatever you put in the ice going to your waist?
Lauren says
I think around the ice.
Brad says
Dang. How did I allow Karla to beat me to first comment? 🙂 Now I’ll have to get up earlier.
12 degrees here. It’s cold for Baltimore. I’m a little worried about some of the borderline hardy plants I grow outside.
Deanne says
Karla beat you because she has a tiny infant that gets up all night long and will do so for a while. You probably shouldn’t plan on beating Karla any time soon. Unless, of course, Lauren posts when Karla has the brief opportunity for a nap.
Bless you, Karla, and your family! Pretty soon they’ll be asking for the car keys!!
Peggy says
I thought the same thing! Sorry Karla…and to think crazy Brad chooses to get up at almost that hour…
Arron/Karla says
Thanks for setting Brad straight, guys. 🙂 I appreciate you having my back.
Brad says
So if I want to beat Karla to making the first comment, I need a baby? Where am I going get one of those?
Peggy says
Don’t you know?!? Well, I can tell you it’s not in a pumpkin patch.
Arron/Karla says
Angelina Jolie didn’t have a problem getting babies before Brad Pitt came along. I’m sure you’ll do fine.
Brad says
So I should ask Angelina Jolie for a baby? Does anybody have her email address?
Arron/Karla says
I have it as angelina.jolie@hotmail.com. Let us know what she says.
Lloyd says
That’s close. It’s angelina.jolie@hotfemale.com
Deborah says
HA!
Beth says
Doesn’t that thermometer read 122F? Good grief, you’ve blocked all the sun-provided heat out of your house with those
towelscurtains. Let the heat in my friend, before Lloyd freezes to death!! 😉Oh, and that little flower down there, below all the comments, between posts -- that’s my favorite between post pic. 😀
Beth says
Aaaarrrrggg…the picture changed. No more little flower. Dnag. I didn’t know the picture was ever changing…now I look foolish.
Lauren says
Ha -- you funny! I thought about explaining that in my post, so I’ll do it now:
Nah, the 122 is the part of the thermometer that you can set, say if you have a turkey that would be done at 165. When the temperature on the left matches the one on the right, it goes off like a LOUD smoke alarm.
Peggy says
Experiment #2: Sit Lloyd on the window sill over night.
