This post is really nothing without a picture of the bird, but I’m telling it anyway.
Sometime back in the fall we had another terrible windstorm that blew pieces of our soffit all over creation. Our kindly neighbors left them on our back step like gifts from the Magi, and we might even have all of them back now. (We won’t be replacing them ourselves, though. You might remember that it was kinda scary last time.)
Today I went out to pour some leaky faucet water on the plants and was freaked out by a terrible scrabbling from above. I whirled, prepared to do battle with a rabid squirrel or werewolf, but wound up almost peeing my pants laughing. It was a bird flying out of the soffit with nest materials in her mouth! I grabbed the camera and waited forever for her to come back, but she didn’t.
I guess we’ll have to wait until after spring to have it fixed. I’m not imprisoning any baby birds up there. Werewolves, yes. Birds, no.
