I’ve had this conversation with some of you many times, but it is interesting enough to me that I want to comb your brains (ew.) Would you consider yourself an extrovert or an introvert?
I am an introvert at heart, but at school I have to be outgoing. All that smiling, talking and being ‘on’ is fine, but draining. Left to my own devices, I am a happy hermit. Group social situations are not my favorite, because I stink at conversation – it’s too much work. It’s much easier and more comforting to sit quietly at home, go window shopping by myself, go outside and check on the cucumbers for the fourth time in an afternoon, or sit in front of the computer for hours.
The extroverted people I know can’t fathom this, just as I can’t understand them. They thrive on being around people, and gain energy from others. Wacky.
So, I’m curious. Are you an introvert or an extrovert, or a bit of both? Explanations are welcome.

Can I come over?
😉
Deanne says
🙂 You can come to my house!!! By the way, the next time you’re out this way, we need to have a gathering of SP folks.

Extrovert… Blow the scale apart extrovert. Love, love, love to be where the action is. Having a party? How can I help? Going shopping? Whatcha lookin’ for? Have some good news? I’ll be excited with you.
Is Lloyd extrovert or introvert? I’d have to say that my hub is introvert.

I was just discussing this with a friend who is fascinated with personality types and is really very good at working with people who are both similar to her and different from her, partly because she recognizes differences and works with them. She made the comment that extroversion and introversion aren’t really the actions (talking with lots of people), but where you get your energy.
She knows she’s an introvert, and that she needs alone time to “gas up,” so she arranges that in her day/week. I get my charge from being with people, but I have to tell you that I get uncomfortable being in a group where I don’t know a lot of people. I prefer to hang with my peeps to get charged up, and I’m not crazy about hanging with new peeps. Leonardo helps me with that. I think he is more extroverted than I am. However, he did teach me the value of hanging around at home. I used to always want to be “out.”
I see that the wiki describes it as a sliding scale -- leaning more extroverted or more introverted.

Introvert! (but a flamboyant one? I think that means when I am comfortable around a few folks I become have the potential to become a pseudo-extrovert.) I’ve taken way too many of these assessments. My actual types are ISFJ and SAR. Anybody know what all of those letters stand for???
Lauren says
I am an INFP, if I remember correctly. Lloyd is an INT_? I can’t remember his, and no, I can’t remember what they stand for. To the internet!

Introversion, iNtuition, Feeling, Perception.
The opposite is
ESTJ: Extroversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judging.

Myers-Briggs! I do a little thing with it in Religion class every year. I can’t remember all my letters, but I do remember my first letter is I. I’m an introvert.
Deborah says
I’m both. I love having people over to the house. But then after a couple hours I send silent “Get out of my house” messages.

HA!!

I too am fascinated with personality types. But because I am an introvert, I prefer to just study alone in a great big library about them…alone. Did I say alone? I’m an ISFJ.
Peggy says
I’m an ISFJ too. But I like being alone & being with others. Too much of either drives me batty. But I prefer small groups instead of large crowds. Groups of 2-4 is ideal…but up to 6 is ok too.
LOVE your drawings…as always!! When are you starting that book?
Lloyd says
When I worked for Oetting’s Detasseling, we did the Meyers-Briggs, and everyone was going around the room reading the little descriptions for their personality types and saying how that was totally what they were like.
So I read mine to them and they totally agreed that that was spot on. Then I told them that I had read the paragraph from the one that was the opposite of each of mine.
Lloyd’s personality type: IAMANASS
Peggy says
HA!! That is totally something I would do. I think your personality type is: FUNNYPRANKSTER
Annette says
But it is a handsome, uh-hem, butt!
Marisa says
When I was an RA in college, we all took the Myers-Briggs test as part of our training. I turned out to be an ENFJ (with a super-high ‘E’), which back then felt totally right (I loved being out with people and would also jump at any opportunity to attend a party/potluck/gathering).
However, over the years, I’ve become less and less of an extrovert. These days, I require quite of bit of quiet recharging time, which I prefer to take in front of a computer or in the kitchen (making jam!).
I wonder what I’d get if I took the Myers-Briggs test today…
Curt says
I am definitely a extrabert.
Christina says
I think I am shortabert.
Annette says
ENFP, altho I prefer TGIF—Can you bring a beer over now?
Michele says
I love people -- I hate being alone. I have to beg for a kid to go with me just about anywhere. I’m not sure I could function alone, especially shopping. BUT if I need a nap, then get lost!
I especially like to chat with old people, (sorry Brad -- I know they scare you) because I find them interesting AND they always appreciate the time you give them. Yep -- LOVE old people and kids.
BUT, my father likes to remind me of the days when my first son was little and they (mom and dad) would come over to play cards after the little monster was asleep … when I was tired, I would just say, “Can you guys go home now?” No silent hints like Deborah -- ha!
