Today was a very nice day all around. We went into Lincoln for an auction, and I got some errands done. (The details will be stuff for future posts, but let’s just say – get ready for a crazy heating update!)
Back at the auction, I was really sleepy and took a fabulous nap in the car, but only after hanging several ‘sweaters‘ and napkins in the window to block the sun. It was pretty ‘living-in-my-car’ fabulous, and I deeply regret not taking a photo.
After the auction, we went pants shopping for Lloyd, then stopped for dinner at The Isles in Havelock. It’s a pub & pizzeria that Lloyd has always wanted to try. We were there right at the end of the Husker game, so it was fascinating for me to watch all these people be so involved. The Huskers lost, and everybody else left immediately. Poor bartender. Do you think that people stay after a win for celebratory drinks?
Afterward we went to see District 9. Here’s Lloyd for a quick movie review:
Much like The Butterfly Effect, I found that the last third of the movie nearly makes up for the pain of sitting through the first two-thirds. I almost walked out of both movies before half-time. I have not yet decided if the way the first two-thirds of the movie(s) is(are) written sets the stage for an enjoyable final third.
Thank you, Lloyd. That’s all, folks.

It’s interesting that you compare those two movies. The story lines of both made me feel a little queasy. District 9 had better explosions and fight scenes though. Butterfly Effect would have benefited from a good robot-suit fight scene.

I agree that these movies were a little disturbing, in different ways…but I liked them both. I thought both story ideas were really good…even if the execution of them left you feeling like you need to take a shower. But I do agree about them being bad…until the end. Another movie like that for me was ‘The Village’. I thought it was HORRIBLE…until the end. Then I thought, hmmmm….clever.

Pub review please.

being a former bartender, my experience with the sports crowd (mostly men) is that most of them, win or lose, leave immediately after the game because the wife or girlfriend is waiting for them at home. She’d rather him be physically absent than at home, mentally absent, and screaming at the television.
I’m very bummed there’s no picture of the “living in my car” napping setup. You are a Jedi Napper.

Pizza review, please.

I had actually been to The Isles about 20 years ago, and I think Lauren was there too. It was when Karl took us to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the JoyJoy? Theater. I’ve been wanting to go back there forever, but never seemed to get around to it.
It was the great pizza that I remembered, and the Pizza was quite good. The Twitter crowd was in agreement that it was good pizza, but there were was one person who thought that Yia Yia’s was better and one who thought Piezano’s was better. I agreed with the former and had no experience with the latter.

Joyo?
Lloyd says
That’s what I was trying to say.

I have never been there. That must have been your other wife.
