Thanks to everyone who helped me decide which songs to use for chapel. I lead chapel yesterday at school. I’ve become pretty predictable in the format of these chapels:
Lloyd says something about a Christmas Carol, We sing a Christmas Carol, then someone reads a few bible verses on which the Carol was based. Repeat as needed (generally 10-11 times).
It went pretty well. I even had some kids come down and say how much they liked it right afterwards. I was a little more ambitious with the music this year. We had piano, a flute and some percussion (conga drums, chimes and some other thing). We sang a couple of songs a cappella, and that worked out okay too.
I also used a new bit of presentation software, so there was some wow factor going on there as well. Instead of slides, you have this huge blank canvas, and you can put pretty much anything on it then zoom around. It’s something that I wanted to share with our faculty, but I wanted to test it out first. Then after I tested it out, I wanted to be the first to use it, so everyone could say, “That’s like Mr. Sommerer’s chapel” when they saw other teachers using it instead of saying, “That’s like Mr. Basset’s class” when they saw my chapel.
Best quote about the chapel (via twitter):
I like how you’re mixing traditional style worship with the most advanced presentation Lincoln Lutheran has ever seen.
It takes a bit to load (after you click on it, assuming you click on it, wait for the blue circles to disappear before you go on). After it all loads it’s pretty slick. You’ll probably want to use the “more” button to make it full screen. Otherwise it’s too small to read.
Here’s a better example that someone else did, if you want to get an idea of how this can be used.

Totally worth it! It’s like a crazy, swoopy amusement park ride combined with the safety of a Powerpoint presentation. I fully endorse it, let’s try it at once! (Name that movie…)

I can’t name your movie, but it made me think of a line from Baron Munchausen: “…and that was one of the many times I met my death -- and experience I don’t hesitate strongly to recommend.”

Your presentation software is cool. I also like that style of chapel. It’s one of my favorites because then I don’t have to have a long message. And by long message, I mean more than five minutes. hehe

That is awesome Lloyd!! And did the handbells play during “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”? I love that song & if handbells played that must have been great!!
Lloyd says
Where the bells are marked in the music we used a set of chimes (because they were in the gym for the Christmas Concert, and we don’t have a set of handbells). They were suppose to echo the note that we’d just sang, but something was a little off.
It didn’t sound bad. It just wasn’t what I was expecting.

It won’t load for me, but I did go to the Prezi site. WOW…

Yeah, it’s a cool idea. It took me a bit to catch on to how to use it. Here’s the direct link to the chapel at their website: http://prezi.com/92thoaotkz1d/
