Y’know, not every funny idea needs to come to fruition, especially when that funny idea is going to be your dinner.
I’ve been wanting to buy a used George Foreman-type grill just to try it out, but that seems like such a lot of work: Buy it, use it, take it back to same thrift store. I started to think….. couldn’t something else work in a similar fashion?
Sure! Two plates that get hot and cook stuff – this will be swell! I cut the steak in half so it would fit. This, I believe, was the first of several mistakes.
The second mistake was putting the half-steaks in the waffle iron, closing the lid, then having no idea how long to leave them in there. Googling ‘waffle iron steak’ did not help at all. I set a timer for two minutes after they had been in there a while. Oops.
Do you know what is vaguely disturbing? The smell of steak combined with chocolate waffles. I think there is some batter stuck in that thing.
Third mistake? Eating it. It was super-tough, but edible. Well, mostly edible. I’m leaving half of it out for the stray cat that’s been hanging around the past couple of days. (It won’t let me near it, and it probably still won’t after this.)
Lloyd’s was cooked in a more traditional fashion, but he said it was still kinda chewy because apparently I’m Incredibly Cheap And We Don’t Buy Good Steaks.
Hmmph.

That “buy good steaks” idea really works. I was blown away when I bought an expensive steak once. I thought I had suddenly become a good griller or something. But no, it was the steak -- the delicous, juicy, tender, expensive steak.

The cheap steak tasted good, but my jaws felt like they had just been to the gym.

Even http://www.waffleizer.com/ didn’t have a section on steaks (but it did have directions for squid salad. Go figure. (PS I’m sure there is some way to make that a real link but I don’t know what it is. You’ll have to copy and paste.)

It had a section for “waffleburgers” which is sort of like steak…..apparently 4 minutes is the correct amount of time for beef.
Kristi says
Nice grill marks on your misteak.

The steak fries and green beans on the side have set my mouth to watering.

Hmm-m-m…I wonder if I could make waffles in my George Foreman grill. (Which I love.)
