I’ll explain the title in a bit.
This is National Lutheran Schools Week, and Sunday afternoon I helped Lloyd get his classroom set up for the children from the local Lutheran elementary schools to come visit. Lincoln Lutheran does a Big Day of Fun or something, and the Mac lab is open for the kids to play a ‘learn about coins’ game, then they get a prize. I will refrain from comparing it to a casino.
My job is to help get the computers set up and make the room neat and tidy. Also, I get to do the prize arranging, which is the very best part. I cull the candy that is not worthy and dispose of it properly.
This year Lloyd added a slide show to run on the screen as the children played. (He can’t actually stay for the event since he has choir, so it’s nice that he does his part for the success of the day.) I drew bubble letters on the whiteboard. To each their own.
Anyway, I was done with my dusting and candy devouring arranging, and was waiting for Lloyd to be done. I admired some of the artsy shots on the slide show, then started to wonder if my old broken camera could do the ‘focus on something close then make it off-center’ thing, and guess what? It can. Yours can probably do it, too. Just point it at something close, hold the button down halfway to focus, then continue to hold the button as you move the camera slightly so the focused thing is off to the side. Push down the rest of the way and bingo! You’re amazing!

The kids come visit on a Sunday? Is it well attended? The only thing we do like that is a track and field day, but it’s on a Saturday, and much later in the year.

There are a lot of people. It’s the NLSW kickoff for all of the Lutheran schools in Lincoln. Various groups perform and there are little informational booths set up about things that the various schools do. We used to pack it even fuller with a Quiz Bowl for 5-8th graders, but that’s sort of fallen by the way-side.

At St. John we do a “Fun Fair”. It’s like the “Fun Night” we had at First Lutheran as kids -- with tickets to play games and prizes and such. It’s very fun.
I’m sad to hear the Quiz Bowl at LL has died… I think Gary L. is still missed around those parts…

Lauren, all Nikons are special. Don’t you ever forget it.
Kristi says
I like how you put Halls cough drops next to the Laffy Taffy. Did any of the kids mistake the cough drops for candy???

Really? Any digital camera? I can’t wait to go home & try it!
What else can my camera do?
