Samith invited us to a birthday celebration for Stephannie’s 40th birthday, and it was delightful. There’s a restaurant in Lincoln called Lazlo’s that serves amazing food, and Samith rented one of their upstairs rooms and ordered from their catering menu. There were several couples from Lincoln there, and it was wonderful company. Good job, Kolliparas!
Teasing her about how young she is got me thinking about getting older. I remember when I was a kid and we’d talk about how old we’d be when the year 2000 came along, and that was unthinkably old – 30! Now I think 40 is young.
Lloyd and I comment on the physical changes we’re going through. I can’t see anything close-up anymore, and when he tries to open a jar that’s stuck shut, he’s not worried about hurting his hand – he’s worried about tearing his skin.
This is the direction things are going, isn’t it?
Gretchen says
Happy Birthday Stephannie! Way to go Samith with the birthday party. (Does that sound more like a Facebook comment?)
Gretchen says
PS now that I’m 7 hours ahead of you (in Germany) I can post first. That is a first.
Lauren says
How is Germany treating your family? Are you in a house or a different kind of housing? We want constant updates on weird food you’ve experienced.
Gretchen says
We’ve only been here since Saturday morning. So far jet lag is really kicking our butts. We are in a guest house now but are working on finding a place to rent -- no real rush because our furniture won’t come for another 4-6 weeks. As far as weird food…all soda tastes like diet to me, and the gyros are nothing like the (fake) Greek gyros we’re used to.
Brad says
Ha! Just on Friday I was talking about the “30 in 2000” thing with some students.
My constant mental question is: Will this cause permanent damage? Temporary pain is no big deal anymore… but lasting pain? That gets old after a while…
Christina says
What do you mean, “tearing skin”??? What has Lloyd done to his skin that would cause a jar to tear it??
Curt says
I thought the same thing. Lloyd, you are supposed to open the jar by turning the lid, not by karate chopping the top off.
(I couldn’t find a clip of Mr Miyagi karate chopping beer bottles.) 🙁
Lloyd says
I find myself thinking more and more about what the skin on Grandma’s hands looked like. It looked so thin that I thought that if got caught on something it would just peel away from her hand
Peggy says
Remember, Every age has a silver lining. One for all you ladies to look forward to is … hair mostly stops growing on your legs! Woo hoo!
Kristi says
Anything regarding hair on the face??
Peggy says
Um, that you don’t want to know.
