Saturday Recap

Saturday Recap

Well, it looked like a glorious day full of nothing. I made breakfast, sat around, then thought it was such a gloomy morning I’d like to make a campfire. Trouble was, all my firewood was wet. No problem:

You have to put it on convection or it just steams.

A little while later I was enjoying a crackling fire in a light drizzle, and just as the last sticks were thrown on, the sun burst out and made the whole scenario ridiculous.

After a shower to wash off the smoke, Lloyd and I ran a few errands. One stop was the garden center, where an appreciative tabby cat (sitting in a box of onion sets) accepted my scritching while Lloyd picked his poison.

Literally. He mixed up several batches and dosed the yard.

I took the opportunity to look at the flowers. The columbine are in full bloom. I like them for two reasons:

1) they are the state flower of Colorado
2) they look like dragon heads.

I wish I had a photo of a dragon to make this into a magi picture.

I tried to get a shot of the inside of each ‘trumpet’.

I felt a little indecent taking this picture - like looking up someone's skirt.

Then I saw the chives had blossoms. Marissa, of Food in Jars, has a cool post about making chive blossom vinegar. I’d like to try it, but I noticed my blossoms have tenants.

He's so widdle.

For the record, that is the size I was expecting of Lloyd’s jumping spider. No one could fear this little guy.

Ahhhh.  How was your Saturday?

My blaring garden ignorance here: I’ve never seen a columbine.
I LOVE IT!! And your photography is outstanding!!! May I have copyright permission to print & frame the dragon head shot, not kidding? (Lauren here: Permission granted!)

My Saturday was the best of times & the worst of times. I had plans to accomplish so many chores. Instead, I vegetated read books in my porch swing, made lists of urgent outside projects, ate out, went to a movie, watched TV….you get the gist.

We were busy yesterday. Company arrives tonight, so we spent the whole morning cleaning. We’re finishing that up this afternoon. I did my morning run, and then we headed off to Norfolk for some shopping.

Just a typical Saturday here -- Went to the Netherlands and did a little shopping, met a member of the US National Soccer team (who was just elected to the hall of fame), went to Belgium to have dinner with friends…This is the fun of living in a place with teeny countries all close together.
