I was looking in the trunk/coffee table for a specific drawing from long-ago, and came across a treasure trove of photos. Brad asked me if I was having a ‘memory fugue’, which Encyclopedia Britannica defines as a person wandering away and forgetting everything, but I think I was just wandering and remembering.
I certainly have some good post fodder to use on dry days. Here’s a shot of a bench that Lloyd and Brad claimed they built back in high school. I’ll only believe them if they tell me how many L-brackets they used.
Then there’s this photo of my friend Kathryn (on the far right in the blue sweater). It’s from a Shop-Ko ad! Yeah, baby – she was a model! Granted, this was many years ago, but I’ll never forget how she described getting this job: “You just go in. I can’t believe that there are not more ‘plus size’ women out there who don’t do this. Ladies, you just have to go in and you’ll get a job!” She is gorgeous, isn’t she?
And then there was this gem, an early draft of our wedding announcement, printed on the best technology of 1992, a dot-matrix printer:
“The Reverend and Mrs. Marion C. Hofman
are extremely relieved to announce
the engagement of
Lauren Kay Hofman
to
Lloyd Justin Theodore Sommerer, Jr.,
who is not really good enough
son of
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Justin Theodore Sommerer, Sr.,
who are opposed to the whole idea,
but
The Reverend and Mrs. Marion C. Hofman
will settle for just about anything at this point
since suitors are not exactly knocking down
Lauren Kay Hofman’s
door despite all the money
The Reverend and Mrs. Marion C. Hofman
spent on her teeth.
An elaborate wedding is planned.”
Ahhhh……good times.
