When I was little, my sister and I shared a bed. That worked out great until I rolled out onto her assembly of plastic horses that were grazing on my side of the bed. I woke up to the pain of being *(here’s where I realize I don’t have any idea how to spell squere. Skewer?) skewered by dozens of pairs of plastic equine ears.
One of the bedrooms in the parsonage had two closets, so it was an obvious choise to make a bed that would divide the room into two areas. It was magnificent! In my memory it was as big as a castle, but in reality it was just the size of a bunk bed. It had enclosed ends, and then each bunk was enclosed to make Lauren’s Loft and Keren’s Cave. At the bottom I had two drawers and one open cubby, some mirror tiles to make my side of the half-room look bigger, and I forget what the other side had.
I loved my loft. I had an envelope taped to the top brace where I kept some Secret Money. I also had an umbrella that I’d use to reach out and turn off the light.
The only scary memory was the first time the cat realized she could climb the ladder to find me. Nothing scars you for life like the scrabble scrabble of claws ascending.
Thanks for the awesome bed, Dad!

I slept in a loft all through college and enjoyed it immensely. I’ve often wondered if it would still be fun now. The closest thing I’ve ever done since then was a bed that was up on those risers you can get at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It was high, but it wasn’t loft high.

I’ve been more than strongly considering getting bunk beds for Tim for Christmas this year. Because every little boy (and Lauren) should have bunk beds in his life.
(Tara will, however, lose her mind with envy…)

You’re welcome, Lauren. With Mom’s counsel and decorating, it did turn out surprisingly well. And, unlike two of your siblings—Mom never found peanut shells in it after Christmas. Hah! Candy wrappers?

Mine was FULL of money! I was a penny hoarder.

OOOOWWWWUCH!!!! Are you scared from the horse impalement? I grimaced when I read that!
Super cool bunk beds! I never had bunk beds or a loft. But my boys did. They loved them!
Lauren says
As I remember, the horses suffered more that I did. We had to put the whole herd down.

We had a wall-to-wall platform built into our kids’ rooms. There’s room up there for three twin mattresses in the girls’ room and three twin mattresses in the boys’ room — a pain in the butt to change sheets, but a huge space saver!
