Name Choice

Drawings, Journal

Do you remember the movie ‘Dances with Wolves’? That came out when I was in high school, and my friends and I had a couple of favorite quotes that we’d run into the ground.

The first was putting our fingers up by our foreheads and saying, “Ta-tonka” – the iconic moment when the language barrier is broken down between Kevin Bacon and the guy from the ninja movies (don’t bother fact-checking any of this, I am a movie expert). We just thought it was hilarious to say.

The second is when Stands With a Fist (played by Mindy from Mork & Mindy) communicates her name. Now that is an awesome culture – one where you are named for something you have done or some quality about you. We really need to steer toward that again.

Case in point – Lloyd was helping me unload the dishwasher and mocking how the dishes were arranged:

Lloyd: Arrgh… a plate in the bowls!

Lauren: That should be my Native American name – ‘Loads Dishwasher Badly’.

Lloyd: Perfect.

Lauren: You would be called ‘Hair That Defies Gravity and Logic’.

So, what would your name be? What would you name someone else? I think my name might change daily, which would be a pain for my driver’s license.

Sincerely,
‘Has Trouble Spelling License Correctly’

For quite some time now my name has been Dangerous With Sharp Objects. And in my own defense, I was very, very tired when I cut my finger to the bone with my own pocketknife. Very, very tired.

Lauren and I do not remember that conversation similarly. In my mind, her name was going to be, “plates with bowls” and mine was going to be, “complains about job he didn’t have to do.”

Did you call Kevin Costner Kevin Bacon on purpose?

I was soooo in love with Lieutenant Dunbar (not to be confused with Lieutenant Dan)!! Mmmmm—mmmm! Kevin Bacon never looked as good as he did in this film! 😉

And I think Wind in His Hair was onto a name for me: Her mind is Gone; or maybe Sings Like Buffalo; or Eats Candy for Breakfast

In my more youthful days, I silently referred to myself as the Crazy Fingers Organista.

another sue: Do you have a scar? Scars are great stories.

Brad: Why would I call Kevin Bacon Kevin Costner?

Peggy: We need to have breakfast together.

Kristi: You could be “Makes Big Notes With Tiny Feet”

Deborah: I feel your page turning stress.

Dad: You don’t know the half of it.

Brad: Do you want to kill me now?
