We have a new boy at preschool, and yesterday we were outside and he kept wanting to take his tricycle off the sanctioned raceway (the sidewalk around the sandbox). I made a little barrier by pulling our steering wheel bench over about four feet to block the way. (The photo shows where it normally lives. I had moved it where that rickshaw is in the photo.)
Unfortunately, I forgot to move it back.
One of my jobs when I first get to work is to go out to the playground to unlock the bike shed, the ball shed and the gate. I actually enjoy these quiet minutes. In the summer the birds are usually chirping, and in the winter it’s dark and cold and peaceful.
(Emphasis on ‘dark’.)
Well, guess what happened today at 6:45 a.m. when I walked out to unlock the shed in total darkness? Yep. I fell over that bench. Ouch ouch ouch. I didn’t just trip, it was a long, involved fall where my knees pushed the whole thing over backwards, then I fell over it, wondering, “Is that the sound of steering wheels? What the? Oh. Rats.”
Poor knees – they’ll never recover.

It’s good you didn’t break your hip or something. That would have made you tell the story over and over…

Wouldn’t a motion detector light prevent such accidents? But then it would kill the dark. Glad you weren’t hurt worse!

I’ve never seen a rickshaw tricycle. Do the passengers demand to go somewhere… and fast?

Oh my gosh….that could have ended up so much worse then it did! Sorry about the knees though. I hope you didn’t tear anything in there.
On the up side, you can now tell a great story about how you were once
hit head-on in the early morning hours by some non-steering convertible AND you walked away practically unscathed!
