Lloyd and I had big plans to go to Lincoln on Saturday, but after we woke up at 9 (and I had slept 12 hours!!), he said, “Forget it. We’ll go tomorrow.”
So, here I was with a whole day with no obligations and a long list of things that could be done: pay some bills, take down the Christmas tree, do the laundry, start the big house purge, clean the house…. and instead I ate a bunch of food, took a sitting-up nap where I drooled on myself, and took pictures of Aslan Kitty.
Aslan Kitty is what I have named the big cat that has slowly made the entire neighborhood his territory. He lives down the street, but has marked every yard as his own. He made three separate trips into our yard today (that I know of) and did battle with some dry leaves and a piece of trash blowing around. (He is very fierce.) It’s a good thing that he’s not my cat, because I would totally shave him so he looked like a lion.
Wait – maybe I wouldn’t. I just googled images of ‘cat shaved to look like a lion’ and the pictures I saw were just sad. You can keep your fur, Aslan Kitty. Pity and your agile fence-climbing skilz have saved you.

Aaahhhggghhh!!! Echos and memories of Tinker!
Lauren says
Oh yeah -- Tinker. I forgot about him! Aslan is a better name, huh?
Brad says
In order to establish its territory, your next cat should be as big as you can find.
I went looking for a giant cat breed for you. This is what I found:

Got an extra $20,000?
Kristi says
Did you capture that last picture mid-leap? That is one agile kitty.
Lauren says
I am embarrassed to say that I took a lot of pictures of that cat.
Peggy says
Dang, looking at that top picture … I thought you had encountered a wolf! Thank goodness it’s just a big ‘ol over-fluffy kitty!
Have you ever tried to pet it?
Lauren says
I have tried, but it’s a little skittish and wary. It’s getting used to me little by little, though.
Gretchen says
I heard a rumor that there is a mountain lion in Seward. Is that true? PS I’m incredibly sleep deprived/jet lagged right now so if I am talking crazy that is why.
Lauren says
Yes, we had mountain lion sightings, but that was quite a month or so ago. Maybe people just saw this cat, huh?
Feel better!
Gretchen says
Exactly! When I saw the first photo with my bleary eyes I thought you were going to tell us all about the mountain lion! Funny how I heard about this -- a Concordia art prof is studying in Boston right now (brief 10 day course or something) and my sister and her husband are hosting him. I was in Boston for less than 24 hours and he told my BIL about it and my BIL told me. (I never saw the other house guest.)
