I think we’ve established that I have a terrible memory. I forget things almost instantaneously after thinking of them. (I’m like a goldfish that way.) It’s really only a problem when I’ve promised to remember something for someone else, because then my shortcomings are inconveniencing others.
Long ago when Lloyd and I used to have a landline, I would call home and leave a message if I had something important to remember. That was so helpful: “Hey! I’ve got a message! Hey! It’s me! Hey! I don’t remember leaving that message.”
Things are bad now. No landline means no reminder. I try writing things down on the piece of cardstock I keep in my back pocket, but at the end of the workday when I’m finishing those things up, I often set the paper down and leave it at work.
I think I may have found a good old-fashioned solution.

I’ve been trying to get my iPhone to alert me when I arrive at specific locations, but I haven’t figured it out yet. Maybe I should just use masking tape.

Maybe you should just look around you……
Peggy says
Hehe….
But yea, I’m not sure what you mean here either. You want your phone to ‘ding’ when you arrive at school….or home…or Pizza Hut…or ???
Brad says
Yes, I want my phone to remind me to do the laundry when I get home. Or remind me to buy sugar when I get to the grocery store.
Peggy says
Oh…to remind you to do something at specific locations. That’s a great feature.
I thought maybe you just wanted it to ‘ding’ when you were at home, reminding you where you were. Ding—This is your home, it is where you live.
Karla says
I just figured that out the other day. I’ll text you.
Brad says
Thanks for trying. At least now I know how it SHOULD be able to be done. Now if I can just figure out why my phone’s “Location Services” menu is missing the “Reminders” icon…
Kristi says
OR you could write on your hand with permanent marker.
Peggy says
I usually email myself reminders or text myself. I never thought of calling myself at home! Genius! Matters not now…we just got rid of our landline this week, and yesterday I left my cell phone on my desk at work rushing to get to the dentist. I felt so cut off. Not that anybody ever calls me…but with my luck they may have tried last night when I had no phones whatsoever.
So did you remember the folders?
Lauren says
Here’s something embarrassing to admit: late this afternoon I grabbed a piece of tape to leave a message on my phone. I pulled out my phone, only to see that I had already written that thing on a piece of tape earlier in the day.
Howdy, dementia. We’ll be fast friends.
