Every time the Gala comes around, I dust off the one good dress I own, put it on, then get grumpy that it doesn’t have pockets for my stuff. I don’t have a nice purse to carry things in, though I have taken my old crummy purses before. I’ve often thought of buying a dressy clutch purse – something that could maybe hold my phone and camera, and perhaps money for the cash bar some other little things.
Pretty clutches are too thin for cameras, but y’know what’s not?
Boxes.
Specifically, a recorder box from a German recorder factory that usually holds the soprano recorder that Lloyd purchased in 1990. The very soprano recorder that has not been played in perhaps 10 years. Fipple flute out, my junk in – I’m ready to gala.
It worked. I think I’ll have a problem next year if I get a new phone, though – unless I get this one like Molly Bassett’s! It’s sooooo cute!
If I get an iPhone, I might have to get a clarinet case.

Man, I wish I had seen this about 72 hours ago! I also had to attend a fancy event on Friday (no fundraising, now powerpoints, but an open bar so it was obviously not a charity event.) Unfortunately, I spent about 45 minutes looking for my pretty clutch. I haven’t used it since we moved so it is a big mystery. Did the movers steal it? Did it fall off the boat into the ocean? Did I accidently donate it to Goodwill? Did I leave it in storage in Arkansas? I should have just used my flute case.

Alternately, you could get a giant hat and sew pockets inside of it. Then you could store all kinds of things in your hat. You’d be like Batman, except instead of a utility belt, you’d have a hat. Wait… That’s not really like Batman at all.
Lloyd says
Oh, it’s more like batman than you might expect.

Ingenious!! You are so clever & resourceful! I don’t have any cute black boxes like that….I guess if I used a shoebox, something would be lost huh?
Kristi says
You could market this as the new clutch for the modern woman.
