Lauren has to “open” tomorrow, and has already turned in for the night. I promised to write something, but I didn’t promise that it would be worth reading…
When I was a little boy, I could spend hours out in the woods looking at patches of moss and lichen at the base of trees or on rocks that I think might have been boulders if they had been uncovered rather than buried in the earth. I would imagine that they were a whole landscape instead of a little patch of one. A single stone would become a whole hill or a forest. Brad planted some sedum in pots near the front steps of our house a few years ago, and I’ve never looked at it very closely. A few days ago, I noticed that it was blooming and I bent closer to see what the flowers looked like.
I was lucky that I didn’t spend hours looking at them. Or maybe I wasn’t.
Brad says
I think sedum looks so alien. You should put some space-man action figures in those pots. 🙂
Lauren says
Ha! I’ve got a C3PO and an R2D2 that would be just the thing…
Peggy says
I never cared for moss as a kid. I don’t know why, but it always creeped me out. Or was it algae that creeped me out. I think maybe both. I guess I didn’t care for green rocks.
Lauren's mom says
Good post, Lloyd!
I don’t have those kinds of sedum, and was fascinated by the flowers. (Actually by all of it.)
