Lloyd got sick over the 4th and has been sleeping a lot yesterday and today. (So have I – but it’s by choice. This is my vacation, and that means lots of doing’ nothing and resting and recharging. I might as well pretend to be sick!)
Anyway, one of the new Lincoln Lutheran teachers had to bring her iPad over so Lloyd could do his voodoo on it. He told her on the phone that he was sick, but ‘someone’ would be here when she dropped it off. I thought that was a curious phrase, as Brad was gone for the day. I guess I’m the ‘someone’ – like an employee.
She came over when I was watching my after-nap television, but all I heard was a tapping noise, so I ignored it. I heard it a little later, and sure enough – she was at the door.
She said, “I tried turning that knob, but nothing happened.” I chuckled at her youth and obvious inexperience, then went to demonstrate how to ring the bell.
Nothing.
Nothing!?!?! But, but….. my cool doorbell! It can’t be broken – it’s tied to my personality!
It turns out that a screw came loose, as well as a spacer. I found the screw, but there’s no telling where that little brass spacer is. It was time to make do – my favorite thing.
Snip snip snip – I cut a piece off of a drinking straw and all is well.
I’ve often wondered what makes the ringing sound, and apparently turning the knob turns the gears inside that make two nuts whirl around and strike the inside of the bell.
Fascinating! And now I need a nap.
