It’s that time of summer again, when w e head up to Fremont to visit the Other Sommerers with Lloyd’s parents. When we’ve gone before they have met in a city park, but this time since the temperature was supposed to be over a hundred degrees, they wisely found an indoor location with air conditioning. (Whew.)
Cousin Mabel brought a book just chock-full of photos from their family’s history. It was interesting to look at, but of course I can’t keep any of the names straight – I just liked looking at the old photos.
They are a very organized bunch – at the end of the luncheon they have you sign in and then there is a meeting to go over old business and cover new business. What does it say about Lloyd and I that we have never taken minutes or approved the agenda when we talk? 🙂
Here are some old photos that make me long for the Laura Ingalls Wilder days, or – in my current obsession – Downton Abbey days. (Except with air conditioning, please.)
Meeting adjourned, until next year.

That’s a smaller affair than I was imagining. Are family reunions usually that size? Maybe using the Heit’s Point Sommerertime reunion as a reference is unrealistic.
Curt says
Ha! Some of the family reunions I have been too use formal meeting procedures. When I was a kid, I thought it was weird.
Curt says
Although it is very effective in handling the finances and future plans.
Curt says
This is what I recall from those reunions although I am sure I am over exaggerating.
Uncle Walter: I make a motion that Esther brings her meatloaf next year.
Aunt Alverna: I second the motion.
President(Cousin Homer): Open the floor for discussion.
Uncle Fritz: Esther’s meatloaf is delicious.
President: We will now vote on the motion. All in favor say “Aye”.
All but a few (cause they are not paying attention and talking amongst themselves): Aye
President: All opposed, same sign.
(no one ever opposes)
President: Motion carried. Rose, (Secretary and wife of Homer) please record that Esther will be bringing meatloaf next year.
President: Any new business?
Peggy says
That is HILARIOUS Curt!!!!!!!!! I laughed out loud!
Lauren says
They’ve had more people in the past, but I think the heat made everyone stay home. They hadn’t changed the location until the day before the reunion.
