Well, I see that once again, my planning, worrying and over-preparation have prevented disaster. (You can’t tell me that my methods don’t work, nosiree.)
The day began with taking the cats to school. It’s faster to just run them to the vet from there rather than go home, round them up and then take them. Plus, it gets the kids all riled up, and everybody loves that, right?
I ran the boys to the vet at 8:30 and signed all the paperwork authorizing them to do whatever they needed to do. I actually wasn’t super worried about Ralph’s eye surgery going badly. We knew that it was a possible outcome, so I was prepared. The receptionist said they’d call if there was a problem, and it wasn’t until 3 o’clock that I realized they hadn’t called. Alright!
The past few weeks I had been thinking through how we would isolate Ralph at home (upstairs bathroom) and had even bought one of those cone collars in case he didn’t like the one from the vet. I didn’t want him digging at his eye while it healed.
I picked him up around 4 and Dr. Ron said the surgery went pretty well. They had to remove tissue from the sclera (white part of eyeball) and a bit of the cornea. Just to help it heal better, he had to put a couple of stitches to attach the sclera to his cornea. I asked if I needed to do anything special the next couple of days.
“Nope.”
I was shocked! Other than giving him eye drops, this cat is fine, because do you know the best way to have a cat not mind stitches in his eye? Have him grow up with hair in his eyeball his whole life. Not. A. Problem.
Oh, and as for their ‘back end’ surgeries? The internet articles that I read about ‘small incisions’ and delicate ‘tube tying’ and ‘reinsertion’ of the …. um…. testicles? Nah, that’s not what they got.
They are gone.
No photo of that. You are welcome.
