I am writing this post Saturday afternoon, since there is no way I’ll be able to write it tonight.
A couple of weeks ago Lloyd told me that he was a junior class sponsor and that prom was coming up.
Me: “So are you asking me to prom?”
Lloyd (Justin Theodore Sommerer Junior, as he is quick to point out): “I’m just telling you about it.”
Me: “So you’re not asking me.”
Lloyd: “Do you want to go or what? We need chaperones.”
Me: “Well, since you put it in such sugary terms…. I’ll think about it. It’s when Doctor Who is on, isn’t it?”
I’ve decided to go since they need help, although I don’t know what kind of help I’ll be. I’ve packed a bag of emergency stuff for wardrobe malfunctions – the kids’, not my own. I plan on wearing my boring black dress and flats. Minimal stress, and I’ll blend into the background. Just call me Ninja Chaperone. I’m considering bringing along the squirt gun I use to keep Wally off the counter. “You’re dancing too close, kiddos. *Squirt* ”
The interesting part is that there is After-Prom Chaperoning at Champion’s Fun Center until 3 a.m. Needless to say, I will not do well.
During-Prom update: I have secured the best chaperone post ever! We’re in the Cornhusker Hotel with free wi-fi. I have a cushy chair in the hallway and get to watch the exit doors! I have my ipad and I’ve been working on my stuff while directing kids to the bathroom! Nobody’s tried anything weird yet, so it’s great!

28 years ago I went to prom with my high school sweetheart. I still have the dress and the sweetheart. He still fits perfectly, not so the dress.

That is very sweet. 🙂
Kristi, I did not get a flower, but I did get hor d’oeuvres brought to me in my comfy chair. (It’s hard to pin cheese to your dress, though.)

That Lloyd… such a sweet talker:)
Kristi says
Did he get you a flower?

I like hotels. I think it would be fun just to hang out in a lobby, but free wifi would make it even better!

Lauren….did you go to the Fun Center? Did they have Skeeball?
