I have a problem with pens: I lose them. I don’t think I’m alone in this problem, but I get razzed for it at work. Pens disappear from my very grasp. It’s part of my disorganized ‘just set things down’ personality, but I admit that it gets annoying when I have a pen, and two minutes later I’m looking for a pen. (I would also like to blame the children, because they are small, misplace things, and are easily blamable. Heh. That looks like ‘blammable’.)
We are out of pens at home, too, but that’s because Lloyd threw out all the pens that don’t work and only kept the ones that barely work. When Sam was visiting he was frustrated at our lack of useful writing instruments. Hey, it’s BYOP around here, Jack.
So last week I broke down and bought some new pens. 36 disposable ones for work that are just going to wind up in the trash or cut up with a pair of scissors. (That actually happened. A little boy came to me all confused as to why his hand was covered in ink. *sigh*) I also bought a pack of lovely pens for home. Fine-tip, gel ink, cool barrel. I think I’m going to love them!
(Except I’m never going to open the package. I don’t want to lose them.)

When I taught in public school I never had a pen. I’m with you -- I think the students took them all. Then I taught in private school and I was on the receiving end. (Lots of doctor parents -- all the pens I got were from pharmaceutical companies.) I haven’t taught in a while, but I haven’t bought pens in years (but none of my free pens are as cool as yours.)

Wait….can you be positive that you are misplacing your pens?

Since I’ve been in Maui, I’ve changed from keeping my pen in my shirt pocket to keeping it in my pants pocket. To my surprise, I have not lost a pen yet. I did accidentally wash one, but it continued to work.
