I feel like I need to do a better job of documenting Ralph’s eye troubles. I am such an absent-minded person that …… what was I talking about? (I am not kidding. I tried to come up with an ‘absent-minded’ example and literally drifted off. It’s been a long day.)
Much like the time before his last visit, I thought, “Hmmmm…. I bet his eye is all better. I should check it.” I did and D’oh!! There were two long hairs on his eyeball, dang it! They looked like they were coming from the scar tissue from the first surgery. I don’t know if these are dormant follicles waking up or new follicles erupting. Who knows in these situations?
So I made the appointment and took him in. As usual, we went to school beforehand and the children adored him. “Ralphie! Ralphie! Ralphie! Ralphie!” He’s like a feline Justin Beiber.
I ran him quickly to the vet where a sweet young intern walked me through all the steps of his check-in. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that this was our…. third?.. fourth? surgery for this. We put him on the scale in his basket and it said 15 1/2 pounds. I knew that wasn’t right and made him get out and sit on that scale alone even though a big dog was nearby. 13 1/2 pounds and the dog didn’t phase him.
When it was all over and time to bring him home, he was pretty drugged, but not in a crashing-around kind of way. More like a really hungover way. He went upstairs to use the litter box and just sat there for a looooooooonnnnnnng time, his eyes closing more and more, almost falling asleep. When he startled himself awake he stood up and I saw he had been sitting in a giant lake of pee.
Good grief. I gave him a bath and it was like bathing a rag doll.
Poor kid.

Hilarious title!

Does he wear a pirate eye patch when comes home from these procedures? Maybe you could wait until he’s sleeping in the litter box, then put one on him.
