Since Lloyd isn’t here at
Stop!! It’s 10:30 Nebraska time so it’s too late to call or text. Deborah! Does Lloyd know when to pick you up?!!? His number is 402 eight one seven 9895.
Ok. Sorry for the panic. Since Lloyd isn’t here, I decided to sleep in the guest room that has all the furniture from my later childhood. (The years after the awesome bunk bed.) I don’t remember getting the bed frames, but I believe the dresser was a clearance score from Sears because it had a flaw. A dent? A broken drawer? I don’t remember. I loved it, because it was new to me and the handles were so pretty.
Also in this room is a desk that my Dad built. This desk harbors some sad feelings because long ago our cat climbed into a drawer and I closed it unthinkingly. A couple of days later we were all wondering where she had gone, and I was helping to look for her. Stupid young me. Stupid cat for not meowing. (Sorry….. Cinders? Ginger?) She was alright, once she got all un-cramped.
Anyway, this desk is awesome because the top used to be a door. (That’s not the awesome part.) Dad cut out a hole that perfectly held Mom’s sewing machine, and also a little board ‘lid’ that fit in the hole when not being used.
Little Lauren, who was beginning her obsession with Things early, would sit in the knee-hole and repeatedly lift the lid and set it back in place over and over and over and over.
I was a weird kid.
But I had nice furniture!
