My ears took a pounding today. Monday at school was noisy but it was also stormy, and I’m a firm believer that when the barometric pressure is playing havoc with their ears, children can’t tell that they are yelling at me.
Today, though, there was no storm. But the end of summer is close and excitement for kindergarten/new friends is high, and when a couple of friends are loud we all get loud, despite the fact that I gently, softly and intently remind the yellers that they are yelling at me.
*sigh* Even my typing sounds loud to me right now.
Tell me some favorite quiet sounds. Or just sounds, for that matter. I like: A fan when I sleep and the sound of flowing water (rivers). I do not like the cicadas outside the window right now that are yelling at me. *whimper*
(Ok, not to end on a totally negative note, two of the yellers were at least funny. One girl was explaining her dental situation to me – “I have four shark teeth.” And a boy complemented me on my home pedicure – “Did you color your footnails?”)

The sound of one hand clapping.

The sound of a car when I’m driving home after a loud/busy day… No radio, no chatter, just the engine and the air conditioner running…

The sound of the surf at the beach (sorry about the implication of the ocean), gentle rain & even gentle thunder, window air conditioner…and this is not soothing but I love the sound of a lawn mower in the distance.
