There are new regulations out there for early childhood/child care people, and one of them is that we must take training courses for the Nebraska Early Learning Guidelines. While I am all for that – they brought more structure to my teaching – I haven’t actually taken any training. (I helped my old director teach some of them. Does that count?)
The training scheduleis not my favorite. You can choose an all-day Saturday for each of the seven domains (social and emotional, creative arts, language and literacy, math, science, health and physical development and approaches to learning) or two evening sessions per domain, each 3 hours long.
No thank you. I do not do well during long meetings. Lots of pen-clicking and clock watching.
I chose the self-study approach. Three big ol’ packages came, and I had three weeks to do my six hours of work on literacy before they were due back. Guess who waited until almost the last second?
You are correct.

There’s nothing like the pressure of a deadline to get things done. I am so with you on that.

We have to renew our DCFS license every four years, and that’s what we’ve always done: the self-study method, crammed into the last few days before the deadline. This year they passed a new rule: at least half of our training hours must be done in person at an actual class. Ugh.

What some people come up with to keep getting a paycheck! On top of that someone must be snowing them with them with the idea that this is really important for the children! I feel for you!
Kristi says
Did you do it in less than six hours?
Lauren says
Oh, yes. Lots of skimming. 🙂
Lauren says
Dang it. I forgot to leave the Easter egg. I’m actually pretty familiar with the guidelines. Here’s one of the Preschool Minutes that I’ve been sending out to parents: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMFdJ84IxdQ
Kristi says
Very well done. Can’t wait to see the next one!

Nice video! My son asked me what I was watching and when I said, “my friend,” he asked me, “Have you ever met her in real life?”
Also, YouTube suggested I might also like a video entitled “UTIs in infants.”
Peggy says
I love your preschool minute. Where can we find more?
And congrats on your speed reading!

Loved your preschool minute.
