There has been a lot of road construction in Nebraska this year. I really don’t mind it,since when it’s all over we’ll have nice smooth roads, but there is a part that has become almost comical.
The windows in my classroom look right out onto the highway. It is one of my favorite parts of our location – we see everything happen! Semis, motorcycles groups, ambulances (we say a little prayer) – it’s fantastic.
But the construction? While it’s been fascinating watching them tear out sections of road, tear out sections of medians, tear out sections of curb, then replace, it seems likes it’s been going on forever. I don’t mean ‘several days’ forever, I mean ‘since the start of school’ forever. I think it was our second week of school we put a note out on one of the worker’s trucks asking if he could come inside and answe our questions. (He did, and Mr. Pancoke was delightful.) Seriously – going on two months. Same section of road.
Today they poured the asphalt. Maybe this is the end?

That is seriously cool. Are you able to do anything besides watching the construction?

I love how it’s the boys looking out the window … great back of the heads shot by the way. I remember my boys loved trucks. They had toy trucks, they had books about trucks, and they announced every truck they saw while driving anywhere.
Were the girls as engrossed?
Here’s hoping your next window seat view is of a movie being filmed…with Sean Connery & Gerard Butler in it.

Don’t count on it -- they’ve been working on an 11 mile stretch of Hwy 34 out my way for at least 4 months maybe more. They poured ashphalt, they finished the shoulders and started removing orange barrels -- AHH at last no more stopping for the pilot car -- and for a few days it was nice -- but then yesterday there they were again -- I’m still not sure why I had to stop for 10 minutes. They weren’t there today, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

What does this say about the attention span of young children?
Lauren says
Oh, they can focus, alright. 🙂
Brad, to answer your question: yes and no. We are doing other stuff, but this is an nice distraction. My main problem is when the serious rumbling starts up at naptime. Not helpful.
