On Thursday I went back to work but was there quite a while to get ready for the next morning’s Thanksgiving Breakfast Buffett. Sometime after 6 I called Lloyd, but he didn’t answer. “Maybe he’s driving home,” I thought.
Around 6:15, I called again. No answer.
Around 6:30, same story. I began to worry a bit.
I came home a little before 7 and he was asleep on the couch. “Typical,” I thought, until I realized that the house SMELLED. No, wait, STUNK. I panicked a little and thought that he had been knocked out by natural gas or something (jumping to the Worst Possible Conclusion again), but he rolled over and said, “Hi”, so it turns out he’s just lazy.
The stench was from the drains in the basement. We have turned off the dehumidifier so the floor drain is not getting a steady drip of water, and the laundry sink never gets used and the trap had dried up, letting sewer gasses flood the house. ‘Yay’ for living in an old house. I poured water in both drains and then walked around lighting matches.
Good thing it wasn’t natural gas, huh? *FOOM*

Hehe… I think it’s interesting how we draw stink with green “scent lines”. I wonder if that’s just an American thing, or if everyone in the world would use green.
Peggy says
Haha! That is a great story! And I’m so glad the smell you smelled was the rotting flesh of Lloyd.
Peggy says
…was not….not…(please fix)
Lloyd says
Hmmmm.

I think the green stink lines originated with Bugs Bunny. Someone research that.
