It all started with a video on Facebook: Rolling up a shirt and underwear inside two socks. I can’t find the original video, but here is one. (It’s not the neatest, but you get the idea.) I was charmed! I keep a change of clothes at work, and this would be a great way to keep everything but the pants in one spot, although wrinkled.
It’s called a ‘skivvy roll’, but while searching for examples I came upon the Ranger Roll – the way that military folk roll up their stuff so they can pack it neatly. I cannot stop rolling stuff up – the Ranger roll turns anything into a cloth burrito.
See this? Napkin.
Here’s the nutshell explanation: Square/rectangle up your item. Fold bottom edge under. Fold sides in by thirds, making long skinny rectangle. Start to roll at non-folded end. When done rolling, grab the inside and pull the flap over the roll.
“Square/rectangle up your item.”
“Fold bottom edge under.”
“Fold sides in by thirds, making long skinny rectangle.”
“Start to roll at non-folded end.”
“When done rolling, grab the inside”
“and pull the flap over the roll.”
Shirt burrito!
Underwear burrito!
Other underwear burrito!
Towel burrito!
Keep me away from your closets.

Genius! We’re flying Ryanair for the first time this weekend -- and they charge ridiculous amounts for luggage (like as much as the air fare!) so we’re going with just tiny carry-ons. I wasn’t sure how we were going to make it work, but this is brilliant! I wonder if I can make a running shoe burrito. Shoes take up the most space in my luggage.

These ideas are great! An outfit in a sock! I’m going to have to try it even though I’m not going anywhere.

I wonder how the final volume would compare if you packed a bunch of clothes in this manner versus clothes that were just carefully folded. But the coolness of the roll has regular folded beat for sure.

Neat, handy for extra in case of emergency in car (trunk maybe)
