I am sorry, but I am going to complain about grammar again. Last week we had some before-school meetings and one was with a very nice lady from the Department of Education. Her presentation was useful, but she said “there’s” followed by a plural noun at least eight times. (I kept tally marks on my handout.) “There’s so many resources out there….” ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!! I want to cringe when I hear it from anyone, but when people with master’s degrees in education do it, I want to stab them in the eye with a pencil.
Same with “her and I” or the less common “him and I”. Really?!?! REALLY?!!?
Lloyd said I should just start an automatic correction service. If I wasn’t such a weeny about appearing like a jackhole, I would.
Brad says
Hehe… The one I consciously notice all the time is “Give it to her or myself.” It doesn’t give me grammar-rage, but it does distract me from whatever the person is saying next because I’m thinking about it.
Now if you’re talking road-rage items, I’ve got a long list of those…
Tammy says
The misuse of the word “myself’ irritates me!
Deborah says
I agree. I stop listening when educated people use incorrect grammar.
Lloyd says
“I’m sorry, I stopped listening when you grammered.”
Peggy says
I’ll never use a pronoun again.
Lauren says
Oh, you’re fine, Peggy. 🙂 I just have a little sensitivity to it, currently. (But I am afraid to drive with Brad. I fear I’d make him insane.)
Brad says
Hehe… you’d be safe as long as we were in the same car. But if you stop right in the middle of a busy two-lane road to wait for someone who is taking a long time to come out of the house, and there is an empty parallel parking spot twelve feet away, then I would be feeling some rage.
