Tuesday night we had a CDC board meeting. One item on the agenda was a safety checklist that the church, school and boards are supposed to review and discuss. It has all the stuff that you would want to do to keep your home safe – fire safety / back up your computer systems / keep chemicals in a safe place / make sure everyone who is supposed to know where stuff is actually knows it / First Aid & CPR training for staff / etc, etc, etc.
As we looked over the list we realized that it would be very simple for the Child Development Center. Almost all of that stuff we already do for licensing. The one thing that I hadn’t done was compile a list of where the water main, gas main and electrical panels were so that everyone else knew. I know where the panels are because we went through a period where fuses were being blown…. and I didn’t know where they were. Discovery! I know where the water main is because years ago we had a water issue and when the city asked where it was so they could turn it off…. I didn’t know. Discovery! (I have since labeled it.) But today when I needed to know where the gas main was? No idea. I knew where the meters were, and thought that maybe the thingies on top were valves, so I called the expert: Google.
Yes. That is where the shut-off valve is located: on the meter.
