On Sunday Lloyd looked dapper and fine for church – dress pants, suit coat, a spring in his step – very fine, indeed. Then we went to WalMart. He got out of the car, set his foot down, and the sole of his shoe fell nearly all the way off. He shuffled. Shuffled like an old man. Shuffled so much I said, “Do you want to go home?” He declined, but I stopped at customer service and asked if I could have a piece of tape to repair my old man.
We spent a looong time in the glue section looking at various types of epoxies, but finally settled on super-duper rubber cement. It is recommended for leather and fabric so we figured it would be flexible enough.
It worked like a charm. You paint it on both sides of whatever is broken, wait half an hour, then stick the pieces together. Boom. Shaved thirty years off Lloyd.

I hate it when that happens. Especially in an airport. They don’t make men’s shoes like they used to, or else you have to pay through the nose for shoes that will last more than a year.
Brad says
They didn’t have any shoe nails?
I wonder which way the pointy end would go. Would you drive the nail down into the sole, or up towards the foot?
Lloyd says
Either ways, make sure you take them off first.
Curt says
Wow, that’s quite the detached sole. Let us know how well this works. I have tried to fix shoes before but the glue never held very long.
Do you have video of Lloyd with his bad shoe? That would be funny to see.
