I love, love, love going to restaurant supply stores. When Alton Brown’s show Good Eats was a big thing, he was always telling people to go to one to check out the cool stuff, and by golly – he was right. So. Cool.
There is one in Lincoln and one in Omaha, both run by the same company: Hockenbergs. If you like to look at giant ovens and refrigerators? They’ve got ’em. If you want to buy some decent and surprisingly inexpensive glassware? They’ve got them by the case! I love looking at all the new stuff, but the big treasures are found in the ‘used’ section, especially the one in Omaha.
They have so many things! It’s not fancy looking – it’s set up kind of ‘thrift store chic’ in that area, but the prices can’t be beat. Soooo many slightly used, super-cool things.
This trip I bought some iced tea spoons (a dozen for $4) that I don’t really need, some little plastic creamers that I’ll take to school for the kids to play with (25 cents each), and a used Cosmopolitan glass for Beth to check out and see if that’s the kind of glass she wants for martinis (96 cents).
Score!
