We had an outdoor VBS closing service and picnic/potluck on Sunday. Everyone who was invited to the potluck was asked to bring a main dish and a side dish, which – as you can imagine – threw me into a bit of a panic. Cooking is not my strong suit. I made strawberry pretzel salad (that wilted in the heat) and cooked some frozen meatballs and a jar of spaghetti sauce in a crock pot and called it good. (Both dishes were made using our prototype ‘summer kitchen’. More about that another day.)
Anyway, it was a good, blessedly short service. We brought lawn chairs or blankets, used gobs of sunscreen and bug spray, sang our songs and I sweated through my VBS shirt one last time. It was sooooooo hot, but at least it was sunny and not raining. I vote for doing it again next year.
Afterward, I had a little meeting to attend, and then after that….. naps. Blessed, blessed naps.
