At our conference today, our very talented (seriously – he was wonderfully inspiring!) keynote speaker asked if any of us came to the conference with other things on our minds, I raised my hand. Besides giving one of the sessions, I was preoccupied with Macy’s bathroom storage issue!
Deborah’s house is awesome. You might remember how I was obsessed with the basement arrangement? Well, they have all the wallpaper off the basement walls and have repainted, and it looks splendid. They have started in on Macy’s bathroom, and I can’t stop thinking about it.
It is wonderfully small. Like, ‘gets-my-tiny-house-juices-going’ small. It is perfectly serviceable, and has a remarkably large shower, but the vanity is tiny and aside from a very small cabinet they took off the wall, there is little storage.
(Sorry if these are sideways. The pictures are doing that weird thing again.)
So I daydream. And daydream some more. As I’m rubbing backs at nap I plan and plot. Originally I thought about tearing into the space between the studs to gain more storage, but I think there might be pipes from the upstairs bathroom running through there. So, I have a plan.
The little wall by the toilet/shower corner is 7 1/2 inches wide, nearly the same dimensions as a 1×8, which is actually 3/4 x 7 1/4. Go figure. I envision a shelving unit that is 2 x 3 feet with various shelves. Also, there is a wall across from the toilet, but it’s ‘invisible’ so you can see in.)
Cutting has begun, but I am stuck. I have enough lumber to either cut one more regular shelf or some sort of alternate shelves. I’m trying to leave the bottom shelf tall enough for tall things. Is that stupid? Will tall things ever go there? I like the little drawers – they can hold tons of doo-dads: first aid stuff, hair thingies, toothpaste, treasure maps, etc. The girls are wicked talented with duct tape, so I bet they could fancy the fronts right up. It needs a shelf right above the little drawers, but I forgot to draw it in this photo.

Here are some alternate variations:
B) Two little ‘cubbies’ added at the bottom.
C) What’s going on here?
Nothing’s attached yet, so I’m open to suggestions. Mind you, Macy and Deborah get to have the last word. 😉
