Our local farm/building/animal supply store, Orscheln’s (pronouced ‘Orshlens’, but that’s an entirely different matter), has had some cat food on sale for many months now. It is well past it’s ‘best by’ date – January 2015 – but I’ve been buying a couple boxes at a time and it smells just fine. The cats assure me that it tastes fine, too.
I was running out of my supply, so I stopped by, thinking that if they had any more, I would buy them all. They were originally $17.99, marked down on the shelf to $14, but marked down on the orange sticker-sign to $5 a box. That’s what I’d been buying them for and it’s a huge bargain. As I was loading all eight boxes into my cart, a store employee walked by. He glanced at the shelf sign and said, “Fourteen dollars? That’s a good price.” I smiled and said, “Nope. These are five bucks each. I’m going to clean off your shelf so you can have it back.” He looked at the empty shelf and said, “How about a dollar each?” I looked appropriately stunned and he said, “I’ve been here six months and those have been here this whole time.”
Luckily it turned out that he could wield that kind of power, so I bought them all for eight dollars!!!! We go through two cans a day, so this is three months of dinners.
The boys are excited.
