Sunday night I was reading in bed a heard a small ruckus in the hallway. “What’s that?” I asked.
“A cat,” Lloyd replied. How helpful.
Well, he was right. It was a cat. It was Ralph, trying to get out of Lloyd’s closet, where he was shut in. I discovered it in the morning when he didn’t come running to breakfast. He bolted out of there as soon as I opened the door, probably because he knew how I’d react when I saw the carpet.
*sigh*
I had a whole day to think about how to prevent this from happening again. Jingle bells on the door? Some sort of motion sensor? A doorbell? A doorbell…. a wireless doorbell! As it turns out, Wal*Mart has them pretty cheap.
I bought one and spent some time trying to train Ralph how to use it, fully understanding that he never would. (I don’t have children and am in need of a hobby.) Then I set up the iPads so I could Facetime Ralph while he was shut in the the closet alone.
He didn’t seem to care.
He also got a little bored.
Several times he looked at the doorbell (that I attached to the floor) and I silently willed him to press the button!!
That did not happen. Then the final option occurred to me: the free way, since I have gobs of ribbon.
Dang it. I can’t return that doorbell. Need a doorbell?

That’s the closet that opened itself and turned on the light by itself when I was staying at your house by myself that one time. If only the ghost would have let Ralph out…

We need a wireless doorbell. I’ve always wanted to try one on the front door. We’ve actually never had a working one… Weird.

I know where you can get one cheap. Real cheap. Like, come over and get it cheap.
