Deborah, I’m sorry if this turkey is going to be the worst food you’ve ever eaten.
I’m brining a bird for Thanksgiving. Alton Brown – the best cook/scientist in the world – was great about explaining this, but now that I’ve surfed the internet some more, I worry that doing this to my frozen bird is going to make for a salt fest. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Anyway, I wanted to be sure using an old bucket didn’t contaminate the bird, so I bought a box of those roasting bags and bagged the bird and the brine.
Turkeys are so, so, so gross.
I was woozy pouring this in after dealing with the grossness of the turkey that is still rather frozen in the middle, after spending five days in the refrigerator. Five days!!
We’re good, though – Deborah’s bringing pie.
Deborah says
That….looks…..delicious? 🙂
I agree that raw poultry is disgusting. Thank you for taking one for the team.
Deborah says
Happy Thanksgiving!
Lauren says
Happy Thanksgiving, brave one!
Brad says
Were you able to find a non-brined turkey? It seems like all the turkeys I see in the store are already seasoned or juiced or something.
Lauren says
Nope. This was a frozen turkey, which they say you shouldn’t brine. It turned out ok.
