Are you familiar with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs? It’s one of the few things I remember from college. In a nutshell, it means that you have to take care of your most basic needs before you can tend to the next thing. You need food, clothing and shelter, then you need to feel safe, then you need to feel loved/accepted, then you need to feel respected by others, then yourself, and then you get to ‘self-actualization’ – becoming the best version of yourself. If something is messed up near the bottom of the pyramid, you have to take care of it before you can move on.
I keep feeling that with the new center. Here we have this gorgeous, inspiring new center that is a model of loveliness. People who tour the inside ask if we are excited, and I respond that yes, we are well and truly blessed, but I can’t say how we are still working on the base of the pyramid. We don’t have phones yet, we just now are figuring out the schedule, there are still things that need to be fixed/finished…. but I’ll get excited about making a little of the environment cool and inspiring and then some new kid comes along with $@&#% lice and bam – back to the bottom of the pyramid.
I am despondent about the lice. Is it showing?
