My parents are wonderful people. Very kind, very supportive – just all around awesome. Here’s just one example:
Little by little we are whittling away at problems that were forseeable at the CDC. The kitchen is in the middle of the building, and deliveries can arrive one of two ways: by a back sidewalk that leads right to the kitchen door, or from the north door. (There’s a driveway.) Usually stuff comes through the north door. On Mondays our groceries arrive and each day our lunch is catered from St. John. Until a few weeks ago, we either used the little kitchen carts or just walked stuff in. I had a plan to buy a big cart, and our grocery guy loaned us a grocery cart to keep on site. It was very nice to have, but kind of awkward for lunches.
Here’s where it lived in the north foyer:
I mentioned on the CDC Facebook that we wanted to borrow a big cart to see if it would work. My parents saw it and my dad started looking at carts, even offering to buy one online and have it delivered to a local store. It wasn’t the right kind of cart, so…. he just sent money. How kind!
As it turns out, the cart that I wanted to buy was at our local farm store!! I saw it and walked it right up to the checkout. It. Is. Perfect.
The grocery guy stopped by my room to say how much he likes it – he can get all the groceries inside in one load. My co-worker that serves lunch loves it – everything fits and they can just serve right from the top of it. A man stopped by today with a truckload of pumpkins to donate and we just stuck them all on the cart and wheeled them in.
Yesterday I thought about putting up some boards on the wall to act as bumpers so we don’t mark up the wall. (Which I may or may not have done with a different cart….) I was having trouble finding the studs when I realized that I really just needed to make sure that the wheels didn’t get too close to the wall.
Problem solved:
Thanks for the cart, Dad! 🙂 Did I mention that it has a cupholder? Swanky.
