I was so glad to caravan with Brad, because it gave me the excuse to see things I’d never seen before. I’d never driven across Wyoming, and though I visited Deborah in Utah once, there were still things I hadn’t seen. That was fun.
I was also glad to visit with my parents and Mark’s family. Mom is doing quite well with her leg, though I pray that she continues to heal and that my Dad’s breathing improves. They are tough, but prayers would be welcome.
We left Tuesday morning because I wanted to see Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. (On our last train trip, we looked up at the top of the canyon and there was a roller coaster track sticking over the side. What?!?!)
On the way, we drove up a different route than usual, which was great. So much majestic beauty everywhere!
We saw lots of tiny towns with tiny post offices. There’s one in the banner photo, but I didn’t get pictures of all of them. We also saw some coal mines and oil wells.
We even stopped to look at a waterfall and climb around. If we had more time, we would have spent it here for an afternoon.
We got to Glenwood around lunchtime. Cavern time!! How to get to the top of the canyon? You take a gondola up,
and it takes you to a little ‘Silver Dollar City’-style amusement park. The roller coaster is an alpine-style, where one or two people sit in a cart and you drive/brake yourself. (We didn’t go on any rides.) There were also two styles of swings that went out over the edge of the canyon. We heard lots of screaming and taking the Lord’s name in vain.
We did pay for a cave tour. It was nice and delightfully cool.
Afterward, we drove toward home a different route – north toward Wyoming. It was great taking a different path, and we were once again surrounded by beauty. At one point, I looked out the window and saw…
a bear! “That was a bear!” I exclaimed. Lloyd had missed it. It was a black bear just meandering his way up a rock on the side of the road. Totally cool. First bear sighting.
We drove through still more beauty, and stopped in a little town for a good dinner. The restaurant was beautiful and rustic, but they were understaffed so we were there almost an hour and a half. That put us a little behind, but we made it to Laramie for the night.
Our trip home on Wednesday was uneventful. That’s one problem with delightful vacations – all the pretty stuff is so very far away.
