So, the Perseid meteor shower is happening these next couple of nights and I wanted to see some meteors. Lloyd was in Missouri Friday night, and I have church commitments on Sunday, so Friday was the only option. The interwebs warned that sightings would not be very clear due to the brightness of the moon, but if you could get somewhere dark before moonrise, you might see some.
I had a plan. I was going to wait until just before complete sunset on Friday and drive somewhere dark and watch out the car window. Well, why not the lake? Hmmm, if I’m going to the lake, there’s the possibility I just might camp. I took along some bedding, a camp chair, a ‘pressed log’ and some water. I was completely fine with not getting out of the car if it felt unsafe.
It felt very safe. There were many, many people out camping. Nearly all the sites were full, and they were big groups of people all talking and laughing, and no crazy drunk kids in sight. I set up the Prius tent, settled in to watch the sky for 20 minutes (until the moon rose) and….
nothing.
No meteors. Glorious stars, but no meteors. I just went to sleep.
In the morning, I walked around camp and saw fifteen tents, three boats and two campers.
I left right away, though, because I hadn’t brought any food and I was hun-gry.
A fun little adventure!

Awesome camping trip! And thanks for the reminder to look at the sky for some meteors.

And last night it rained. Oh, well.
